Five minutes that matter
Fix it to the wall. Every chest, every time.
A chest of drawers is one of the few pieces of furniture that can genuinely hurt someone. Pull the top drawer out, load it, and the centre of gravity moves in front of the feet — which is exactly what happens when a child uses the drawers as a ladder. An anti-tip strap comes in the box with every chest we sell. It takes one screw into a stud and five minutes, and it is the only thing that prevents it.

Setting up
Build the carcass first, then slide the drawers in. Around an hour, and fit the strap before you load it.
Free delivery to most of mainland UK. Some Scottish highland, island and Northern Ireland postcodes carry a surcharge, shown at checkout before you pay.
Before you order
Anything else?
The strap is the only instruction here that is about safety rather than looks.
Do I really need to fix it to the wall?
Yes. The strap is supplied for a reason and takes five minutes. Once the top drawer is open and loaded the chest can tip forward, and it is heavy enough to injure a child. Screw into a stud where you can, or use an anchor rated well above the loaded weight.
How long does assembly take?
Around an hour for a five-drawer chest. Lay the panels out and count them against the list first, build the carcass, then fit the runners and slide the drawers in last. A second pair of hands makes standing it up much easier.
How much will a drawer hold?
The per-drawer load is in the description. Metal runners take more than the plastic ones you find on cheaper chests, but spread the weight and keep the heaviest things in the bottom drawers — it is more stable and the runners last longer.
Will it fit in an alcove?
Check the width in the description and add a couple of centimetres either side, because alcove walls are rarely square. Also check the drawers have room to come fully out in front of it.
Can I return it?
Yes, within 14 days of delivery under the Consumer Contracts Regulations. It goes back flat-packed, so keep the box until you are sure.
