A recliner needs room behind it, not just in front
A powered seat travels backwards as it reclines, so a sofa pushed flat against the wall cannot open properly. Most electric recliners want a gap behind them — the exact figure is in the description for each model — and a socket within reach of the lead. Measure from the skirting board, not the plaster, and remember a radiator or windowsill counts as the wall.

How much space do I need behind it?
The clearance figure is in the description for each model. A powered seat moves backwards as it opens, so a sofa pushed hard against the wall will not recline fully. Measure from the skirting board rather than the plaster, and treat a radiator or windowsill as if it were the wall.
Does it need to be plugged in?
Yes. Each powered sofa runs from an ordinary 13A socket. Work out where the lead will run before delivery day, because trailing it across a doorway is the thing people regret.
What happens in a power cut?
Most electric recliners include a manual release so a reclined seat can be returned to upright without power. Check the description for the model you are looking at.
Do the seats move independently?
On these models each reclining seat has its own control, so one person can recline without moving anyone else. The description says which seats are powered on each sofa.
How much weight will a seat take?
The maximum user weight per seat is in the description. It is the figure the frame and the motor were tested to, so please do not exceed it.
What does the guarantee cover?
The manufacturer's guarantee covers faults in materials and workmanship, including the reclining mechanism and motors. The term is set out in the description for each model.
